DynamiCare Health was founded with the mission to scale evidence-based products & services to help one million people overcome addiction. Our Scientific Advisory Board helps us accomplish this mission by advising us on how to ensure our products & services adhere to rigorous scientific evidence.

David R. Gastfriend, MD, DFASAM

Co-Founder & Chief Medical Officer

DynamiCare Health

An addiction psychiatrist, Dr. Gastfriend has held clinical, research, technology development, and policy roles. At Harvard, he directed Massachusetts General Hospital’s Addiction Research Program. As VP at Alkermes, he directed scientific communications on Vivitrol. His research led most U.S. states to endorse the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria. His 150 publications include The ASAM Criteria and Addiction Treatment Matching. His ASAM Criteria CONTINUUM® software is being adopted nationwide. He co-founded DynamiCare Health, winning awards from Harvard Business School, the states of Massachusetts and Ohio, and the New York Times. He has consulted to the governments of Belgium, China, Iceland, Israel, Norway, Russia, and the US.

Maxine L. Stitzer, Ph.D.

Senior Research Scientist

Friends Research Institute

Dr. Stitzer is emeritus professor at Johns Hopkins Medical School and a co-founder of its Behavioral Pharmacology Research Unit, a nationally recognized substance abuse research laboratory. Her research interests during a 40+ year career have focused on both pharmacological and behavioral approaches to the treatment of substance use disorders including opioid, stimulant and tobacco use disorders. She has published over 300 papers in refereed scientific journals and has been repeatedly honored for her scholarly contributions and mentorship. She is best known for her pioneering work on Contingency Management in substance abuse treatment, an approach designed to enhance motivation for positive behavior change. 

Anthony DeFulio, Ph.D.

Associate Professor

Western Michigan University

Dr. DeFulio is an expert in behavioral interventions designed to promote drug abstinence and medication adherence. He is one of the nation’s leading researchers on the use of smartphones for remote delivery of these interventions. He also conducts discovery-oriented work to elucidate basic behavioral processes involved in decision making and behavioral economics. He currently serves on the Executive Board of the Faculty Senate at Western Michigan University and is the board’s liaison to the Research Policies Council. He is also a current member of the Board of Editors for Perspectives on Behavior Science and is a former member of the Board of Editors for the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis and the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior.
