The Science Is Clear: DynamiCare Works
DynamiCare has collaborated with leading academic institutions like Johns Hopkins University to demonstrate a 2-3x increase in quit rates across drugs, alcohol, and tobacco among those using the DynamiCare platform.
DynamiCare builds on the existing research behind contingency management (CM), or motivational incentives, which promotes accountability and motivation through the use of positive reinforcement.
Contingency management (CM) leverages the power of incentives for recovery and is the foundation of DynamiCare’s comprehensive approach to long-term care.
Study after study has shown CM to be one of the most effective and evidence-based psychosocial treatments for substance use disorders, with the University of Vermont demonstrating a 2.8x increase in smoking quit rates among pregnant women. Despite the proven success, CM is used by less than 10% of U.S. treatment programs.
DynamiCare solves obstacles that have prevented CM’s adoption by using a fully automated, convenient platform that includes random substance tests for accountability, GPS tracking to help avoid triggers, and positive reinforcement to keep patients motivated throughout the program.
CM has been recommended by the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Surgeon General, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and it has been validated in over 100 randomized controlled trials.
Our goal is to make CM easy and accessible for patients everywhere and to contribute to this critical and growing field.
Here are just a few of the significant results achieved through the inclusion of contingency management in treatment protocols.
All of DynamiCare’s products and services are built upon our core technology. At the heart of our core tech stack is our Contingency Management Engine™, which uses gamification, behavioral economics, and positive reinforcement to drive behavior change.
Each of our app features tie into the Contingency Management Engine, so members are rewarded for each successful action, generating high rates of engagement and retention. Our core app-based features are:
Breath and saliva testing devices that are integrated with the app and completed over selfie video.
Confirmation of in-person appointments using GPS.
Weekly & monthly research-validated assessments and evidence-based self-guided therapy modules.
Finally, all the data generated by user activity is fed into DynamiCare’s Predictive Analytics Engine, to predict risk of dropout or relapse. This information is used to adjust substance testing schedules and to alert DynamiCare coaches and other healthcare providers when a member is at risk.
DynamiCare’s care approach includes health coaching programs to address a broad spectrum of substance use-related conditions. These coaching programs can also be accessed conveniently from one’s phone through the app.

DynamiCare Health was founded in 2016 by Eric Gastfriend, Harvard MBA tech executive, and his father, David Gastfriend M.D., an international expert in addiction psychiatry and board member of ASAM. DynamiCare’s mission is to scale proven solutions to help one million people overcome addiction.
The DynamiCare Health team is a diverse group of addiction healthcare experts and world-class technology innovators who have come together to solve one of the greatest public health challenges of our time.
DynamiCare automates contingency management, one of the most effective yet underutilized interventions for the addiction epidemic. Our nation has exponentially increased expenditure for addiction treatment over the past decade, yet rates of addiction in this country have remained largely unchanged. DynamiCare means to change all of that by providing cost-effective, long-term, evidence-based care for substance use disorder.
Our program can be utilized as continuing care post-rehab, as a digital therapeutic to improve outcomes in outpatient treatment, or as a standalone coaching program.
We work with individuals, treatment providers, and local and state governments to deploy low-cost, highly effective care to individuals across the U.S.
