ABC News: Locally developed app helping people stay clean and sober

"If they're actually abstinent, sober, we reward them. We transfer money that the family has put into a reserve account onto a debit card, but it's a smart card. It protects the person from spending the money in dangerous situations," said Dynamicare Health co-founder Dr. David Gastfriend.

"It detects the relapse because people start showing up late to their appointments, and we use GPS tracking in the phone to detect that. Or they leave their AA meetings early, and we can detect that."

Users say the app is an effective weapon in their ongoing battle against addiction.

"(It) became a very good tool in my sobriety, with being an immediate response, it was almost like someone saying a 'good job' to you," app user Kieran Corbitt said.
